Funeral Luncheons
This ministry is made up of volunteers who either: call, prepare or serve the food that is donated for a funeral. The family is charged for the core part of the meal i.e.; sandwiches which is purchased by the Coordinator. They are also charged with a nominal fee to use the Church facility to offset some of the costs.
There are 4 areas of service:
1. Back –up or Co-Coordinator for the Funeral Receptions Coordinator –This is a much needed position so that no one has to be turned down because the Coordinator was not available. This position involves talking with the family of the deceased and planning the reception with them. Shopping is required for purchasing the core items of the meal i.e. sandwich bread, meat and cheese which are then billed to the family. The Coordinator should also be present at the reception from start to finish. Average commitment time is around 6 hours.
2. Be a member of the Food Donating Team. You would be called by one of the Food Callers 1-2 days in advance to donate a food item such as a dessert, salad, fruit tray, veggie tray or condiment items to be dropped off on the day of the funeral.
3. Be a member of the Serving Team for either during the Daytime or Evening or sign up for both. Commitment time varies, you can come and serve for all or part of the time as you schedule permits.
4. Be a back-up for one of the four Primary Food callers. You would be calling for one of them if they were unavailable. Commitment time varies. You would be calling for 5-12 food items set up by the Coordinator.
