Frequently Asked Questions about “Active at St. Anthony”

What are the days and hours available to participate in Active at St. Anthony’s?
Active at St. Anthony takes place weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays from 8:00am until 9:30am. Drop in anytime it is convenient for you during this period of time.

What types of activities are available through the program?
In its early incarnation, Active at St. Anthony will simply consist of a regular opportunity to walk the gymnasium among fellow parishioners.  As the program evolves, opportunities for personal wellness goal-setting and additional wellness programming may develop, depending on the interest of participants.

Do I need to register to participate?
No prior registration is necessary, although participants will be asked to sign in each time they participate. An Active at St. Anthony badge is required to be worn by all participants while walking.

Is there a fee to participate?
No!

What entrance do I use to access the parish activity center?  Do I need to check in with someone upon entering the school?
We ask that participants enter via the gymnasium atrium that is easily accessible at the back of the school’s lower level. Convenient parking is also available on the lower level. An alternate entry is through the school entrance. Signing in with the school secretary is required. You will receive a badge to identify you as a guest and be directed to the gymnasium where you will be asked to sign in to the Active @ St. Anthony session.  During the summer months, access will only be available through the lower level entrance. We appreciate your compliance with this protocol as it allows us to maintain record of all participants and assure the safety of our students.

Do I need to sign any forms?
All participants in Active at St. Anthony will fill out an Adult Hold Harmless agreement.  The form will also ask for the name and phone number of someone to call in the event of an emergency.  This form will be kept on file once completed and will not need to be completed each time you participate.

Will someone be present to monitor the program and answer questions?
A Coordinator will be present for every Active at St. Anthony session to answer questions and offer assistance.  Our volunteer Coordinators are trained in CPR and the archdiocesan “Safeguarding All of God’s Family” program.

What is the distance around the Parish Activity Center Gymnasium?
The interior perimeter of the basketball court is 268 feet.  A mile run is 5,280 feet.  Given these measurements, 19.7 laps around our walking space result in a mile.

Can I track my activity progress?
Wellness tracking devices are a booming industry today.  However, a simple paper tracking sheet can be helpful in monitoring progress, participation and goals.  Active at St. Anthony has prepared a wellness log for your use should it be helpful.  Our Coordinators have this log on hand during every session, and you can find it here on our web page as well.

Do I have to wear special shoes?
We ask that no “street shoes” are worn on the playing surface of the    gymnasium.  Please bring a pair of clean gym shoes with no gravel or stones in the soles.

What else do I need to know about the space?
The Parish Activity Center gymnasium is a brand new addition to our facility and so we are doing our best to be good stewards of this space.  Water is allowed in the space, but we ask participants of this program to refrain from bringing other snacks into the gym. The temperature in the gym is set at a comfortable 68 degrees.  Participants’ coats and other personal items can be left on the bleachers while walking.  Security cameras are in place in the gym and will be active during our program. Thank you for helping to keep this wonderful space clean and well cared for so it can serve our community’s needs long into the future.

Can I bring my children?
We are not currently able to offer child care or accommodate children during Active at St. Anthony.  This program is designed for adult participants.
