Summer Book Read

The Our Faith in Action team invites everyone to read one, two or three NYT bestsellers this summer! One of the books is written for anyone ages 8 and up so families can enjoy it together!  Click Here to register for discussion sessions.

Crucial ConversationsCrucial Conversations: Tools for Talking When Stakes are High, Third Edition by Joseph Grenny, Kerry Patterson, Ron McMillan, Al Switzler, & Emily Gregory provides powerful skills for engaging in high-stakes conversations, regardless of the topic or person, in a world where skilled communication is more important than ever.  This is also one of the key books used for a Just Faith Session, “Want to Talk? Communication Tools for Divided Times”, to be held starting in fall of 2022.


A discussion of the book facilitated by Jerry Fons will take place on Sunday, 9/11, from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. (updated)

I'm Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for WhitenessI'm Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness by Austin Channing Brown is an eye-opening account of growing up Black, Christian, and female that exposes how and why white America’s efforts to address the challenges of racism so often fall short of its ideals.  This is also one of the key books used in a Just Faith Session to be held starting in January 2023.

A two-part discussion of the book facilitated by Robin Gleason and Dcn Dennis Petrie will take place on Tuesday, 8/30 and Tuesday, 9/13, both from 6:30-8 p.m. in room F&G.

 

Stella by Starlight
Stella By Starlight by Sharon M. Draper is a depression-era novel about a young girl who must learn to be brave in the face of violent prejudice when the Ku Klux Klan reappears in her segregated southern town. (Ages 8 and up!)

A discussion facilitated by Jennifer Guthrie and Kate Burke will take place Thursday, 9/22 from 7-8:30 p.m. in F&G. Parents, please read the book and attend with your children.
