Phil Rothschadl is a graduate of UW-Madison, with an undergraduate degree in Music Education and a Master's of Music Education. As an undergraduate, he performed with Wisconsin Singers and marched with the University of Wisconsin marching band.

He recently retired from teaching 4th and 5th grade band at Swanson Elementary School in Brookfield, and 6th grade band and 7th and 8th grade jazz at Wisconsin Hills Middle School.  Prior to teaching elementary school, he taught middle school in Brookfield and high school in Oak Creek.

Rothschadl played trumpet in the Nordic Brass Quintet for 25 years (now leads the Rothschadl quintet), Waukesha Area Symphonic Band, Tally Ho Brass, Real Hot Chicken (rock band), Lake Country Dixieland band, and also plays lead alto sax with the Jackson Park Jazz Orchestra. He enjoyed playing organ in church and had been doing so since the 8th grade. He played organ at Blessed Sacrament Church in Milwaukee from 1997-2025.

On May 4, 2024 he was inducted into Phi Beta Mu, an international professional bandmasters fraternity.  He is soon to be published on J.W. Pepper as a composer.  He is also a clinician for concert band, brass, marching band, and jazz ensembles.

In his free time, Rothschadl is active in Tae Kwon Do, currently a fourth degree black belt. He enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife and two children.
