GETTYSBURG, PA & EMMITSBURG, MD

Al McCauley and his former teaching colleague Pete Yaeger are offering a trip to Gettysburg, PA and Emmitsburg, MD for a maximum of 40 participants.

During our time in Gettysburg, we will enjoy guided tours of the battlefield, visit the Gettysburg Cyclorama and the Visitor Center Museum, and make a stop on the Underground Railroad to deepen our understanding of this pivotal moment in American history.

In addition, we will visit the historic St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Gettysburg as well as the National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes and the National St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Shrine and Basilica – both of which are in nearby Emmitsburg, MD.

Over the years, Al and Pete have formed a friendship with Gettysburg residents Dean and Judy Shultz. We will have the special opportunity to visit their farm and tour an area known as “Lost Avenue,” a rarely seen part of the battlefield that fewer than 1% of visitors ever experience.

We will also tour the historic Shriver House to learn about the civilian experience during the Battle of Gettysburg and visit St. Francis Xavier Church to learn about the contributions made by Catholic nuns and townspeople in the aftermath of the battle.

We ask that participants be in reasonably good health as there will be much walking – and sometimes over difficult terrain.

We will be staying at the Comfort Inn & Suites in Gettysburg.

  • The cost will be $635 per person, based on hotel double occupancy. This amount covers hotel accommodation (including continental breakfast), coach bus transportation, guides, and entrance into all sites. It does not include lunches, dinners, and gratuities.

  • To ensure your spot, please register and remit a $300 deposit or full payment by June 1, 2026.
