School Mass Singers

St. Anthony on the Lake School Mass Singers 2021-2022 Information and Registration

Purpose of the St. Anthony School Mass Singers

Our group is open to any singers in grades 4-8 interested in contributing to the music ministry of our parish at school liturgies.  St. Anthony on the Lake Music Ministry youth programs offer opportunities for young people to enrich their musical, social, emotional, and leadership skills through music, prayer, and ensemble participation.  We are committed to fostering a love for musical participation in various avenues of parish life and to helping our members develop closer relationships with God as well as positive, self-confident attitudes that go beyond our group.

Ensemble Information and Schedule

  • The group runs from August through June for kids from grades 4-8. New members may join us at any time.

  • Currently, there is no registration fee.

  • Mass: We lead the music at the school’s weekly morning Masses.

  • Rehearsals: Tuesdays during the 20 minute lunch recess.

Modifications for Social Distancing

  • We will follow parish and school social distancing practices. If you have any questions or concerns, please   contact me.

Student Responsibilities

  • Attendance is critical to ensemble work. It is expected that every singer will attend rehearsal with Mrs. Farrell and sing at school Masses when scheduled.  Communication is key.  If your child is scheduled to sing but will be absent, please let me know as soon as possible.

  • Students are expected to give full cooperation and attention to their director and treat their fellow choir members and choir helpers with respect at all times. If problems arise with regard to any aspect of the program, parents are encouraged to contact the director.

Cantor Responsibilities

Leading the psalm is great opportunity and responsibility.  In an effort to reduce the handling of materials, students asked to sing the psalm and/or gospel acclamation will be sent an email with a printable copy and recording of the music 2 weeks before their assigned cantor date.  They are expected to: 1) Practice at home and 2) Attend the cantor rehearsal 1 week prior to their scheduled Mass date.  Students who do not prepare at home before their cantor rehearsal will be removed from the cantor rotation.  *(As many students as possible will be asked to cantor.  Readiness to cantor is determined by the director.)

Parent Power

Parents have a significant bearing on the overall success of the music ministry a St. Anthony’s.  The time may come when you are needed to be more present.  In the meantime, you can support us by:

  • Encouraging your child to practice at home.

  • Making sure that your child has access to materials online.

  • Emphasizing the importance of participating at Mass by attending and singing at Mass!

  • Assisting the director when necessary for extra rehearsal and event supervision so that choristers are not left unattended should a student have to leave the rehearsal.

  • Promoting a spirit of friendship and cooperation among parents and students.
