November...a Month to Remember

On Saturday, November 1, we celebrate the Solemnity of All Saints Day with one Mass at 9 am. All Saints Day is one of the major Holy Days in the church calendar. A day the church sets aside to honor the “Church Triumphant,” all who have gone before us, both named and unnamed, apostles, martyrs, confessors, and holy men and women who have lived their faith and been examples to us of Christian life. The Feast of All Saints Day has been celebrated on many different days throughout history, but was finally fixed on the first day of November by Pope Gregory III sometime between  731 A.D. and 741 A.D. Because All Saints Day is a Holy Day that falls on a Saturday this year, it is not a Holy Day of Obligation; however, we will celebrate the day with one Mass at 9 am that morning.

Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, November 2, we celebrate the Feast of as All Souls’ Day at all
Masses. All Souls’ Day is the day when we the “Church Militant,” remember the faithful departed nearest and dearest to us. Relatives, family, and friends who have gone before us.

If you wish to have a loved one remembered at this Mass, simply fill out the envelope from your monthly
envelope packet or
click here to submit names online. Envelopes are also available in the Gathering Space.

As Roman Catholics we are asked to use the month of November to remember all who have gone before us. We are also encouraged to spend time during the month visiting the graves of loved ones and offering prayers. Our Book of Life will be on display in the sanctuary with the names of parishioners who have gone before us.

On the evening of Thursday, November 6, at 7 pm we take time to remember parishioners whose funerals
were within the last year in our church at a special Memorial Mass. This past year we have buried twenty-five members of our parish. Please join us as we support those families that are still grieving the loss of a loved one.

Take time this month to learn about some of your favorite saints, many of them came from very humble backgrounds and went on to do extraordinary things.
